Our winery Rioja
The heart of everything we do. Vineyards in the sub-regions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Our vines combine the best of classic varieties such as Tempranillo, Graciano, Viura and Garnacha Tinta together with more unusual native grapes such as Maturana and Tempranillo Blanco. Each of these varieties has a unique complexity, a reflection of our dedication to creating exceptional wines.
Our surroundings donde la tierra y el vino se encuentran
Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres is located in Cenicero, just 20 kilometres from Logroño, in the epicentre of La Rioja Alta. This historic sub-area was chosen by Bordeaux merchants in the 19th century to ensure their wine supply after the devastating phylloxera plague ruined their vineyards.
Located near the river Ebro, the microclimate and soils of Cenicero are perfect for growing unique grapes. For this reason, in 1790 the locality was the only place awarded two votes on the board of the Royal Economic Society, a special institution created to promote the commercialisation of wine, thanks to a production that exceeded 90,000 pitchers.
Today, we directly manage a large area of vineyards in collaboration with local producers, retaining strong ties with the original winegrowers and their descendants. This connection allows us to offer a joint commitment to the quality of our wines, converting each bottle into a reflection of our heritage and tradition.
The vineyard the place where it all begins
When it comes to wine, quality begins in the vineyard. At Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, we believe that, in addition to our vines, our winery’s cutting-edge technology and a rigorous and extensive technical team are essential to ensure the quality of our final product.
Since its foundation, Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres has sourced its grapes from the most privileged parts of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, where our technical teams supervise and assess each stage of cultivation, working unceasingly to improve the quality of the fruit. Each year, the winery’s Technical Management team draws up a rigorous calendar of grape harvesting and processing, based on visits to the vineyard, sample tastings and maturation controls in the laboratory.
Cenicero and Lanciego
Here we work with calcareous and ferrous clay soils as well as vines that are between 20 and 25 years old, with some plots predating the phylloxera epidemic. Altitudes ranging from 300 to 740 metres help to nurture a unique microclimate that creates grapes of exceptional quality. The same philosophy applies to Lanciego, where an artisanal and environmentally friendly approach in keeping with characteristics of the soil and the vines produces unrivalled results
Laguardia and Lapuebla
These vineyards illustrate our commitment to innovation in viticulture. On 17 proprietary hectares of land, this R&D project focuses on the growing of old vines and unique varieties such as Maturana. In these small plots, which range from 0.75 to 6.8 hectares, clay soils with low organic content are cultivated to obtain low yields and wines with great personality.
San Vicente de la Sonsierra
Located in a bend of the river Ebro, the vines of the 30-hectare San Vicente de la Sonsierra vineyard are more than 40 years old. Controlled yields and terraced soils, quartzite rock and pebbles allow us to create vegan and organic wines of the highest quality.
Our winery Rueda
In 2014, we made the leap to the Rueda Denomination of Origin with a view to taking the greatest possible advantage of its incredible soils and continental climate. We manage our own vineyards, growing the Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc varieties, which, added to some Chardonnay trial varieties, are bringing to life fresh, elegant white wines that are full of personality. Our approach has always been the same: bring out the best in each grape, respecting its character and working on every detail to offer the best in every bottle
Our surroundings roots that connect us
Located in Castilla y León, the average altitude of our vineyards in Rueda is 750 metres above sea level. They are planted on gravelly and stony soils that provide good drainage and aeration. The continental climate of the region, with average temperatures of 13°C and an annual rainfall of 460 mm, ensures the perfect contrast between day and night, allowing the grapes to enjoy a well-balanced and full ripening period.
Rueda, the oldest Denomination of Origin in Castilla y León, has a history that dates back to the Middle Ages, when the wines of this region – known as the “golden wines of Rueda” – were already noted for their quality and prestige. After successfully overcoming past challenges such as the phylloxera outbreak, the region remains an international benchmark in the production of white wines.
The vineyard savour every corner
At Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, we manage 125 hectares of vineyards spread between the towns of Serrada and La Seca, with Verdejo as the main variety. Our passion for innovation has also led us to explore the potential of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as part of our constant search to improve the expression of our wines.
Our vineyards, with vines between 30 and 40 years old, are located on stony and gravelly soils that are ideal for growing grapes noted for their freshness and character. In La Seca, the red-bed soils enrich our Verdejo vines, while in Serrada, where our winery is located, the vineyards are distributed on terraces with soils that range from rocky in the upper part to sandy near the river Duero. This diversity of soils adds a unique complexity to our wines, which are in turn an authentic reflection of the terroir of Rueda.
Taking care of every detail is essential at Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, which is why nocturnal harvesting is one of our main priorities. Cooler night temperatures ensure that the grapes can be picked in the best conditions, favouring a slow and controlled fermentation. After the harvest, the process continues with the same standard of care. Production, stabilisation and bottling are carried out in three warehouses equipped with the latest technology. These cutting-edge facilities enable us to precisely interpret the raw material, respect its identity and ensure that each wine represents the ultimate expression of the vineyards.
Our wines signature wines
We have established ourselves as a signature wine in the Rueda Denomination of Origin. Our vineyards grow on gravelly and sandy soils, with that special touch drawn from a continental climate ripe with contrasts. We love to experiment and play with the possibilities offered by our estates in La Seca and Serrada, where Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc are the star varieties. Here, each wine is an explosion of personality, a true reflection of our passion for wine and the land around us. Every sip tells a story, and we are excited for you to share it with us.
